Sample
A sample is a portion chosen from the population. If a sample consists of the whole population then it is called census. The number of units in a sample is called sample unit.
It is practically impossible to enumerate the entire population or even it is possible it is very time consuming and often expensive. Hence sampling is important. A sample is typically collected and extrapolated for the entire population. Thus, sample is observed and the population characteristics are assumed.
