Outstanding Shares

Outstanding shares refers to the number of shares that are issued by a corporation and currently held by investors. They have certain rights and represent ownership of the corporation to the person who holds the shares. If a company issues additional shares, the number of outstanding shares increases and leads to the dilution of ownership rights of the existing shareholders. However, if a company buy backs its shares, the number of outstanding shares reduces.
