Reinforcement Learning(RL) is used to explore and exploit a trading strategies performance. It is very useful when used to optimize not only the trend predictions but also the actions of the algorithm. For example, you can explore a strategies performance based on the algorithms signals indicating when to buy in the market and how to do it (using a limit/market order and at what price).
