Is it possible to protect your strategy by using patent or copyright against other users from coping it or creating it as theirs?

As an educational institution we can't comment on the legal and compliance aspects when it comes to filing for patent or copyrights, as there are multiple factors to consider like geography, scope, etc.
Also, It is difficult to protect your strategy using a patent or copyright as you have to prove your strategy is truly unique for a patent. There are other considerations as well and it will be time and resource intensive. Most algorithmic trading strategies created by users or institutions will not be directly available to the public and hence you will not be able to identify if anyone is copying your strategy.
