The following sentence: "Stop the loop if the contract being processed is the current first-month contract" should be "Stop the loop if the contract being processed is the last-month contract.", right?
Hi Nick,
The current first-month contract is the latest month contract. For e.g. the current first-month contract for crude oil is May'21 contract. Similarly the next month contract today is the Jun'21 contract. When you are considering historical data say [Jan'21, Feb'21, Mar'21, Apr'21], then, the current first-month contract (or Apr'21) will be the last month contract (or the last value of [Jan'21, Feb'21, Mar'21, Apr'21]).
Hope this helps.
Do let me know if you have any more doubts!
