Can we connect data to Claude on the web instead of claude on the desktop

Course Name: Claude AI for Trading, Section No: 11, Unit No: 12, Unit type: Document

Hi,
Your course material mentions that we need to connect data to Claude on the desktop. But i wanted to know if data can be connected to Claude on its online web version.

Hi,

Yes, partly.

Most of what you need works fine in the browser. You can paste data into the chat, upload a CSV, and use web search. No desktop app needed for any of that.

The one thing that will not work is the Alpaca connection shown in this section. That version of Alpaca runs on your own computer, and the web version has no way to reach it. Only Claude Desktop can.

We chose the desktop route on purpose. Setting it up takes a few minutes and then it just works. Your Alpaca keys stay on your own machine, you are not paying for or securing a server, and you get the full set of tools, including placing paper trades later in the course. The browser route needs you to host Alpaca online yourself, which means keys sitting on a server you have to look after. That is a lot of extra work for the same result.

If you are doing the optional Indian markets unit, Zerodha already host one for you. Add https://mcp.kite.trade/mcp as a custom connector in the web version and it works straight away.

So for the course itself, install Claude Desktop. It is free, same login, and your Projects and chats show up in both. The recordings were made there, so the steps will match exactly what you see.

Hope that helps.
