Hello there:
I have taken several courses on quantra… and I was wondering… if that would be enought for getting a quant trader job at a firm… I was told that I needed to have an internship … in order to get some experience… so How do I actually get that ??
I have taken the following courses on quantra:
- [Automated Trading with IBridgePy using Interactive Brokers Platform]
- [Financial Time Series Analysis for Trading]
- [Introduction to Machine Learning for Trading]
- [Mean Reversion Strategies In Python]
- [Momentum Trading Strategies]
- [Python for Machine Learning in Finance]
- [Trading with Machine Learning: Regression]
And I am also taking currently:
- Trading with machine learning and SVM
- Data and feature engineering for trading
- Introduction to Data science
Not only that But also I have a degree in physics, and I also hold a diploma in Corporate Finance … (of course My main trading market is the U.S. stock market.)
can all those courses that I have taken… be enough for me to get an internship as a quant trader ?? or what else do I require ??
Please help me
Thanks
Hi,
Your education in Physics can help you in grasping quant concepts and while modelling strategies. A corporate finance diploma helps you move towards the finance domain and Quantra courses will assist you in real world trading as well. I believe now you should focus on showcasing your skills. This means looking for internships in the domain, building your own trading strategies.
Try building your own trading strategies (from scratch or use python libraries for backtesting) and if you want, host it on github. Look at machine learning and AI models as well since the world is moving towards ML and AI. Try to understand what went right, what went wrong and showcase that as well. Also, join different special interest groups, on LinkedIn or other forums so that you can network and also see if there are any opportunities. Look at Quant interview questions which are asked and see the answers.
As with other domains, an internship will help you in learning and also signal to potential employers that you are focussed on this domain as a career.
Hope this helps.
Hi:
Thanks a lot for your reply, Now I was wondering… I have already made a few algorithms for my trading ( I am retail trader…) and if I could show that… would that be of any help ?? Do I need to post them on Github ??
Also I would like to know about internships outside my country ( Bolivia) is that possible ??
Thanks a lot for your help…
Yes, showing your algorithms will be very helpful. Employers want evidence that you can design, code, and evaluate trading strategies. Posting them on GitHub is highly recommended, as it builds a professional portfolio and demonstrates both technical and analytical skills. If you prefer not to reveal everything, you can still share simplified versions or hide sensitive parameters while explaining your process. A clear README with details on objectives, methods, results, and key learnings makes your work much more impressive.
Regarding internships outside Bolivia, it is possible, especially with the growing number of remote roles. Look for opportunities on LinkedIn, eFinancialCareers, or quant-specific job boards, and reach out directly to smaller firms and startups. Networking in online quant groups can also help. Combining a strong GitHub portfolio with active applications will strengthen your chances.
